Carclaze is a new build school which forms part of the 4 year framework scheme with Cornwall Council, of which EIC are a framework partner. This new school amalgamates the existing infants and junior schools serving some 420 pupils.
The EBS systems comprised of :
•LTHW Biomass Boiler serving an external distribution system.
• A passive ventilation systems comprising of air inlets/outlets in the building facade and a bespoke ground air duct providing natural ventilation to the area of the building with limited external surfaces.
• Solar Thermal System.
• Rainwater Harvesting System.
• Lighting control through daylight switching.
Brought on board from the outset , EIC have had the opportunity to integrate and engineer the building services scheme to be sympathetic to the open plan learning and building use which meets with the open learning principles of the client. Using renewable energy we have been able to influence the design and realise the clients aspiration of a BREEAM Excellent rating, by providing 62% of the buildings energy through renewable sources and reducing the carbon footprint of the building by 60%.
