Project Description

Tesco´s first English "eco" store located in Shrewsbury in Shropshire. The store covers 60,000ft2 and is constructed using a timber rather than steel frame. This groundbreaking store employs a range of green technologies.

Scope of works

Our scope of work included design and installation of many features to reduce the carbon footprint of the store. These included our involvement at different levels with full lighting control to the sales area, self adjusting lights to dim and turn-off according to ambient levels, with PIR controls in back of house.

In addition photovoltaic panels introduced an input power source into the stores electrical distribution with bio-fuel generator providing support where necessary.

Geothermal heat exchangers and rainwater harvesting systems all added to the eco concepts. All areas were looked at for eco benefits -even the car park lighting was controlled to tighter parameters switching to suit the stores trading needs.

Project Overview

With the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies, this store will have a 50% smaller carbon footprint compared to the usual format for a store of this size.
